Amaravati: With a view to integrating peripheral areas of the capital region with Amaravati, the state government is planning to introduce circular trains. These high-speed trains are intended to connect Vijayawada, Guntur, Tenali and other towns with Amaravati.
According to information, one of the aims of the project is to strengthen public transportation in the capital region. Managing director of the Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation (AMRC) N P Ramakrishna Reddy met Indian Railways officials in New Delhi on Tuesday and Wednesday to discuss the plan. “Circular trains will be an asset as they will connect cities and towns in the capital region with the capital,” Ramakrishna Reddy said.
It is learnt that a new railway track of 110 km between Vijayawada – Amaravati and Guntur – Amaravati will be laid for enabling the introduction of high speed trains. The officials explored the option of using the existing railway grid line, but the Indian Railways opined that it is already saturated. “The officials said the existing lines are already saturated. And, there is no railway line in some places. So, we have to lay a fresh railway line,” Reddy explained.
The proposed new line is tentatively as follows: Vijayawada (main railway station and Krishna Canal) – Amaravati via Velagapudi, Thullur – Guntur – Tenali – Vijayawada.
