Vijayawada MP Kesineni Srinivas (Nani) along with Airport Director G. Madhusudhan Rao on Monday visited the airport premises and inspected works that were nearing completion.
To cater to the increasing passenger traffic, the construction of the new airport terminal—which will act as an interim before the International terminal is built—began on October 8 last year. The works are expected to be completed by January 7.
The interim terminal and the ceremonial lounge spread over 12, 999 square metres will include check-in area, arrival hall, meet and greet service staircase, aviation lounge, and baggage make up area. The lounge is spread over 3,613 square metres.
The terminal can handle up to 500 passengers at any point of time and will have 18 check-in counters.
Mr. Nani told the media that efforts were being made by the Chief Minister and Union Minister for expansion of the runway and construction of the international terminals at a cost of Rs.700 crore. Airport traffic had gone up and many international airliners were keen on starting operations.
