Amaravati: Amaravati rail link to Vijayawada and Guntur in a new line proposed to be taken up by the Railways as part of a joint venture (JV) with the State Government at a cost of Rs. 2,680 crore for 106 km.

In fact, Andhra Pradesh has has something to cheer as far as railway infrastructure proposed and funds allocated to the South Central Railway (SCR) as per the details of several new works proposed like fresh lines, doubling, traffic facilities, etc., after the demands for grants was placed in the Parliament, said General Manager Vinod Kumar Yadav at a press conference.

While SCR got a substantial amount of Rs. 3,034 crore as against Rs. 2,134 crore last time, among top projects slated for Andhra Pradesh are work for extension of Vijaywada-Gudivada line up to Machilipatnam deep water port for Rs. 130 crore cost as another JV project with the State Government. The JVs are already in place, he said.

Funds have been allotted for – new lines of Nadikudi-Srikalahasti (Rs. 350 crore – 309 km), Kotipalli-Narsapur (Rs. 430 crore – 57.2 km), Kadapa-Benguluru (Rs. 240 crore – 255 km), Kakinada – Pithapuram (Rs. 150 crore – 21.5 km), Obulavaripalle-Krishnapatnam (Rs. 100 crore – 113 km). Doubling works – Guntur-Guntakal (Rs. 124 crore-443 km), Guntakal-Kalluru (Rs. 52 crore – 41 km), Guntur-Tenali (Rs. 36 crore-24.38 km), Gooty – Dharmavaram (Rs. 75 crore – 90 km); with electrification – Vijayawada-Bhimavaram-Nidadavolu (Rs. 122 crore – 221 km) and last mile project of Jaggayyapet-Mellacheruvu (24 km – Rs. 79 crore).

Third lines – Kazipet-Vijaywada (Rs. 100 crore – 219.64 km), Vijayawada-Gudur (Rs. 100 crore – 287.67 km) and Rs. 6 crore for Tiruchanur railway station. Bypass lines are to be built at Vijaywada, Renigunta,Wadi, Gooty and Kazipet at Rs. 135 crore.

Apart from these, development of Rajahmundry yard at Rs. 27.2 crore, a divisional integrated training centre has been sanctioned at Vijayawada at a cost of Rs. 3.8 crore, overhauling station at Rayanapadu at Rs. 8.07 crore, replacement of conventional lights to LED in all 120 stations of Guntur and Guntakal divisions at Rs. 2.5 crore and waiting hall at Tirupati station at Rs. 3.72 crore.

The General Manager revealed that new surveys cleared were for 219 km between Kazipet-Vijaywada, 120 km Dharmavaram-Bellary, Rs.132 km Hindupur-Chitradurga, 250 km Kondapalli-Kirandul and 110 km Mantralayam Road-Kurnool.
