Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Tourism’s prized possession, the picturesque Bhavani Island, will soon acquire new frills. The tourism officials plan to convert the Haritha Resort located at the Berm Park on the banks of the river and a stone’s throw from the island, into a grand five-star riverfront resort with 100 rooms.
The project will be implemented in PPP mode at an estimated cost of ₹100 crore. “Request for Proposal for the project has been issued and a developer will be selected soon. Work related to landscaping and clearing of areas to develop natural trails are already in progress. New pathways, selfie points and many other attractions will be developed as part of the project,” said Himanshu Shukla, Director, Andhra Pradesh Tourism.
Mr. Shukla said the tourism authorities were trying to select a master plan to transform the place into an attractive tourist destination. “Once that is done, specific projects will be implemented, all in PPP mode.”
Glamping (a form of camping involving accommodation and facilities more luxurious than those associated with traditional camping) resorts have been conceptualized by the authorities, both at the Bhavani Island and the Pavithra Sangamam.
Taking the excitement level a notch above, decks are being cleared to introduce more water sports and boating activity from 11 new locations, besides the existing boat operations. They include Bhavani Island, Pavithra Sangamam, Gollapudi, Venkatayapalem, Rayapudi, Swathi theatre road, Durga Ghat and Alankar Talkies.
