Amaravati: Minister for Social and Tribal Welfare Nakka Anand Babu said the foundation for the Ambedkar memorial park at Amaravati would be laid on April 14 marking the birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
The government has allotted a 20-acre site where a 125-foot tall bronze statue of Dr. Ambedkar would be installed. The proposed memorial would have a meditation centre, a library, an open-air theatre and a study centre.
People from different walks of life following the ideology of Dr. Ambedkar, from all 664 mandals, would participate in the event, Mr. Babu said in a departmental review meeting here on Saturday.
The Minister said the Ambedkar memorial park would be consecrated with water and soil brought from Dr. Ambedkar’s native place Mhow village in Madhya Pradesh, and also from the Parliament.
The exact location of the proposed memorial would be identified by the Chief Minister in a few days.
Earlier, the Minister discussed the implementation of the SC/ST sub-plans and other issues concerning the respective communities with the officials. Excise Minister K.S. Jawahar and S.C. Corporation Chairman J Prabhakar were among those present.
