Amaravati: The Amaravati Development Corporation Ltd (ADCL) has re-invited tenders for the proposed iconic bridge across River Krishna, the estimated cost of which has been revised at Rs 1,348 crore. Officials said that this is Rs 86 crore lesser than the previous estimated cost of Rs 1,434 crore.
Even though the ADCL had invited tender in mid-2017 for the 3.2-km bridge, which would provide an alternative link between Vijayawada and the capital region, other than the existing Prakasam Barrage route, the process was scrapped later.
According to information, three firms had participated in the tender process last year and the officials later scrapped the process after scrutinising the technical bids, as there were ‘technical problems’. “We cancelled the previous tenders due to administrative reasons, which were technical. We initiated a fresh process last week. Interested firms can file bids till March 13,” officials said. They further explained that the reason for the revision in the estimated cost of the project “is due to the fact that a full-fledged technical evaluation of the project was not done earlier.”
Officials further say, the works of the iconic bridge are likely to begin in the second half of 2018. The completion of the project is expected to take 1.5-2 years. The six-lane bridge, which will be taken up under Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC) model, is proposed across the River Krishna, between Pavitra Sangamam at Ibrahimpatnam and N10 road in Amaravati.
Meanwhile, municipal minister P Narayana said that the works related to development of the returnable plots would begin from April. The minister, who inspected the roads under construction in Amaravati on Friday, instructed the contractor to expedite the works related to the roads. “Once the monsoon sets in, the works will be halted for four months. Hence, plans should be made to expedite the work and finish it, as much as possible, before the monsoon season begins,” he said.
He further said that works related to 220 km roads in the capital region were underway and that all the roads would be ready to ply on by March, 2019.
